1. The technique
The biggest driver. Each technique uses different equipment and planning:
- Microkeratome LASIK makes the corneal flap with a precision blade. It's usually the most affordable.
- Femto (bladeless) LASIK makes the flap with a laser, for more predictable flap thickness.
- Contoura Vision uses a detailed corneal map to plan the treatment. It's most useful when the cornea has irregularities.
- SMILE has no flap: a small lenticule is removed through a tiny incision.
The right technique depends on your corneal measurements, not the price. See our guides to Contoura in Mumbai and SMILE in Mumbai.
2. The laser platform and the hospital
Different hospitals use different laser systems, and newer platforms often cost more. Hospital overheads, location and the surgeon's experience also affect the price.
3. What's included (and what isn't)
Two quotes can look very different simply because one includes more. Check for:
- Pre-op tests: topography, pachymetry (corneal thickness), dry-eye tests
- Surgeon and laser fees for both eyes
- Post-op medicines
- Number of follow-up visits
- Enhancement policy: is a touch-up included if needed?
A low headline price that adds tests and follow-ups later can end up costing more.
4. Your eyes
Higher power, astigmatism, or a cornea that needs topography-guided treatment can change the recommended technique. If laser isn't safe (for example with high power and a thin cornea), ICL may be recommended instead, and it's priced separately.

5. Insurance and EMI
Most retail health policies treat LASIK as cosmetic. Some cover it above a minimum power, and some corporate group policies cover it, so check your policy wording. No-cost EMI may be available at partner hospitals, subject to approval.
How to compare LASIK quotes in Mumbai
- Get a full assessment first, so you know which procedures you're eligible for.
- Ask each hospital for a written, itemised both-eye quote for the same procedure.
- Compare what's included, especially tests, follow-ups and enhancement.
- Ask why that technique is recommended for your eyes.
- Check travel time for the next-day review.

Clear answers
Questions families ask
What is the cost of LASIK in Mumbai?
Indicatively ₹40,000–₹1,20,000 for both eyes, depending on technique, platform and inclusions.
Why is Contoura more expensive than LASIK?
Contoura adds detailed corneal mapping and topography-guided planning. It adds most value when your cornea has irregularities.
Is SMILE more expensive than LASIK?
SMILE is usually towards the higher end of the range. Your eligibility and corneal measurements should decide, not price.
Is the cheapest LASIK safe?
Price alone doesn't tell you about safety. Check the pre-op tests, the surgeon's experience, the hospital's accreditation and what's included.
Does insurance cover LASIK in Mumbai?
Usually not under retail policies, but some cover it above a dioptre threshold, and some corporate policies do. Check your policy wording.
